Five is enough to compare properly. Beyond that you get diminishing returns and a full inbox, so the cap keeps it manageable for everyone.
What a quote includes
Each quote comes with a price and the tradesperson's profile — their verification status, the work they do and their reviews from previous Rank My Builder jobs. You can message them to clarify scope before deciding.
For bigger jobs, a fair quote should spell out what's included. It's reasonable to ask for an itemised, written breakdown before you commit, especially for extensions, kitchens, bathrooms and roofs.
Comparing fairly
Don't just take the lowest figure. Check that each quote covers the same scope, look at the reviews, and weigh up who you'd actually trust in your home. The cap exists so you can make that judgement, not just sort by price.
