Getting started as a tradesperson: set up, quote, stand out
Tradesperson
Whether you claimed your listing from an email or signed up fresh, here's everything worth doing in your first ten minutes — and the handful of things that make your profile the one homeowners actually pick.
1. Set up your business (2 minutes)
Sign up free, choose 'tradesperson', and you'll be asked for your business name, postcode and the trades you cover. That's it — your account, profile page and quote manager are live. If your business is already listed on Rank My Builder, use 'find your business' instead and claim the existing listing, so you keep your place in the directory.
Founding members — the first 100 trades — keep everything free: no monthly fee, ever, plus free bid tokens each month for when local jobs start flowing.
2. Send your first quote from your phone
This is the bit trades tell us replaces the notebook. Go to Quotes, add your customer (name and number is enough), then build the quote: line items, quantities, prices, VAT toggle — the totals do themselves.
Hit send and you get a link to text or WhatsApp to your customer. They open a tidy, professional quote page with your business name on it and tap Accept — no app, no account, no printing. You'll see the status change the moment they do.
Accepted quotes roll onto your jobs board — booked, in progress, complete — so you always know what's on. Any quote prints to PDF if someone wants paper.
3. Make your profile stand out
Fill in every field. A one-line tagline ('Bathrooms and wet rooms across Derby, 15 years in') and a short bio with real specifics beat empty boxes every time. Add your phone and website so homeowners can check you out.
Link your Google reviews. If your business is on Google with reviews, go to Dashboard → Google reviews, find your listing and link it — your real Google rating and review excerpts then show on your profile. It's the single fastest way to look established, because you are.
List every trade you genuinely cover — your profile appears on each trade's local pages, so a plumber who also fits bathrooms shows up in both searches.
4. When local jobs come in, be quick
Homeowner jobs land in your Leads tab when they match your trades and area. Every job is capped at 5 quotes, so early, specific quotes win: reference the actual job, give a real number or a tight range, and say when you could start.
We're honest that job volume is building — we're a new platform growing across Nottingham, Derby and Leicester. The trades set up now are first in line as it grows, and the quote manager is yours to use for your own work either way.
FAQs
Do my customers need an account to accept a quote?
No. They open your quote link, see the full breakdown, and tap Accept. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.
Can I use the quote manager for jobs that didn't come from Rank My Builder?
Yes — that's the point. Add any customer, quote any job. It's a free tool for running your own work; the marketplace is there on top when local jobs come through.
What does standing out actually change?
When a homeowner compares quotes, they open profiles. A complete profile with a real bio, linked Google reviews and your trades listed converts far better than a bare listing — it's usually the difference between being shortlisted and being skipped.
